Jefferson Radiology is proud to be a Lung Cancer Screening Center of Excellence. Our dedicated team of physicians and staff offer a personalized, comprehensive Low Dose Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) program that can detect lung cancer in its earliest stages.

The Importance of Early Detection For Your Patients:

Lung cancer is by far the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women in the United States. Every year, more people die of lung cancer than of colon, breast and prostate cancers combined. It is estimated that over 80% of lung cancers could be cured if detected at an early stage. Catching lung cancer in an early stage while it is still localized to the lung is essential. By catching malignant tumors when they are still small, they can be surgically removed before the disease spreads to other areas of the body.

 

Does your patient qualify? The American College of Radiology recommends lung screening for the following individuals:

  • Current or former smokers who have quit within the last 15 years
  • Between 50 and 80 years of age and healthy enough to undergo treatment
  • Have a smoking history of a least 20 pack-years (1 pack a day for 20 years, 2 packs a day for 10 years, half a pack a day for 40 years, or the equivalent)
  • Have no signs, symptoms, or history of cancer for the last 5 years
  • Have completed shared decision making, smoking cessation counseling (if applicable), and have an order for the exam indicating they have occurred.

How to Order a Lung Cancer Screening:

Referring physicians need to complete shared-decision making and if applicable, talk to their patients about smoking cessation counseling.

Physicians can bill for the shared decision making service using CPT Code G0296. Please include the shared decision making date on your ordering requisition.
